Information for Reception new starters
We are delighted that you are considering applying for a place in our Reception class for September 2022. Starting school is a very special time for your child and if their application is successful , we look forward to welcoming them to Southridge First School. To apply for a place at Southridge First School you will need to complete an application via North Tyneside Admissions North Tyneside Admissions from 10th September 2021.
At this time of year you would normally be able to visit our school and the Reception classroom. Unfortunately we are unable to offer school visits at the current time due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, please follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Look at the North Tyneside Council website to read the Essential Guide to Schools and find out about the admissions process.
Step 2:
Look at the information below to find out about life in Reception at Southridge.
Step 3:
Spend some time looking around our school website to find out about our school ethos, curriculum etc.
Step 4:
Complete your admissions application form via North Tyneside Admissions (see link above).
Please remember that the closing date is 15th January 2022.
If your application is successful and you are offered a place you would be invited to a 'new starters' meeting in the school hall to meet the staff in Reception and find out more information.
All of the information we will give you is available in the powerpoint below. In addition, at the 'new starters' meeting we hand out a Reception pack to all parents which has details of the staggered start for your child in the first two weeks of the Autumn term and the names of class teachers. In these first two weeks of September staff always ensure that children are welcomed and given support to settle in to our Reception classrooms.

All pupils in Reception to Y2 are eligible for universal free school meals (UFSM) and it is important for parents to register online www.joinos.com for the school meal system – you must complete an online application form BEFORE the start of the term. If your child has any particular dietary requirements it is important that you advise the School Meals Catering Team at North Tyneside Council in advance and also that you let school know via the email address above.
Uniforms can be purchased from local supplier Anne Thomas in Park View Whitley Bay – they will be able to assist you with sizes etc. Correctly coloured uniform without school logos and badges is also acceptable.
Reception places for September 2022 are allocated on April 16th 2022. At that point, if you require before/ after school care for your child in September you can email one of our external childcare providers Out of School Club – southridgeoutofschoolclub@hotmail.co.uk and also Children’s Choice Wraparound childrenschoicesouthridge@hotmail.com who will be able to help you.
If your application is successful we can assure you of a warm welcome in our Reception class and our wonderful staff team will ensure that your child feels happy and secure in September as they begin their school journey at Southridge.
