Information for Reception new starters - September 2020

INFORMATION FROM OUR RECEPTION TEAM:

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted that your child has been offered a place in our Reception class in September 2020. Starting school is a very special time for your child and we look forward to welcoming them to Southridge First School.

At this time of year we would normally be arranging for your child to have a short visit to the Reception classroom during their Nursery session if they are at our school or as a visitor if they currently attend another setting.  There would also be a meeting in the school hall to meet the staff in Reception and to share information with you. Unfortunately this year we face unprecedented times due to the coronavirus pandemic and we are unable to facilitate a visit or meeting this term.

We would however like to share with you details of the information you would have received at that meeting. All of the information we would have given you is available in the powerpoint below. In addition we will be sending out a Reception pack to all parents in the post within the next two weeks which has details of the staggered start for your child in the first two weeks of the Autumn term and the names of class teachers. In these first two weeks of September staff will ensure that your child is welcomed and given support to settle in to our Reception classrooms. (Please note we are unsure of the impact coronavirus may have on school organisation in September. At this time we can only hope and plan for our usual induction / routines to take place. If there is any change to these arrangements due to the Coronavirus pandemic we will of course be in touch at the end of August.)

If you have any additional queries after looking at the powerpoint and reviewing the information in your Reception pack please email the school office office@southridgefirst.org.uk and a member of the Reception team will contact you.

All pupils in Reception to Y2 are eligible for universal free school meals (UFSM) and it is important for you to register online www.joinos.com for the new school meal system – you must complete an online application form BEFORE the start of the term. If your child has any particular dietary requirements it is important that you advise the School Meals Catering Team at North Tyneside Council in advance and also that you let school know via the email address above.

We would also ask you to complete the pupil data sheets sent out in May and return them to us as soon as possible if you have not already done so enabling us to make preparations for the new cohort.

Uniforms can now be purchased from our supplier Anne Thomas in Park View Whitley Bay – they will be able to assist you with sizes etc.

If you require before/ after school care for your child in September please email one of our external childcare providers Out of School Club – southridgeoutofschoolclub@hotmail.co.uk and also Children’s Choice Wraparound childrenschoicesouthridge@hotmail.com who will be able to help you.

Whilst we face uncertain times this summer term we are very much looking forward to welcoming your child in to our Reception class and our wonderful staff team will ensure that they feel happy and secure in September as they begin their school journey at Southridge.
